JUNIOR ANGLERS (UNDER 16 YEARS OF AGE)
With effect from Monday, 10th May, 2010, please note the following alteration to our rules with regard to Junior Anglers.
You must be 16 years of age to be left unaccompanied.
HOUSE LAKE – You must be 16 years old to fish the House Lake unaccompanied
SPECIMEN LAKE – You must be 18 years old to fish the Specimen Lake unaccompanied
Junior Anglers may fish the Kidney Lake and Len’s Match Lake, as long as they are accompanied by an Adult
Junior Anglers may only fish the House Lake and the Specimen Lake as long as they are accompanied by an Adult Angler
It is with regret that we have had to take this step, but unfortunately over the past few months, situations that have arisen have brought us to this decision, a few of these being :-
A father brought his 10 year old son to fish, stayed with him for about 1 hour, then said he was popping out but would be straight back – although this turned out to be many hours later (even our original rules stated that juniors under 12 had to be accompanied).  We are not a “Creche” where people can come and leave their children and go off for the day, this is a sport and not a drop-off centre.
Another instance was one junior who was with a party of three, managed a catalogue of events before this was brought to our attention and was asked to leave.  He tied a fishing line with a hook and float to our bridge on Len’s Match Lake, he decided it would be okay to trawl one of the pools with his net trying to catch fish, struck into a fish so hard this flew over his head and then landed in the water behind him and also the swims they had just moved from, they had left rubbish.
Juniors thinking that it is okay to fish the House Lake and Specimen Lake, even without the right equipment, because they just want to catch BIG fish.
Also we cannot allow juniors who have been left, running around because they have become bored.
As we have stated, junior anglers are more than welcome to fish our lakes, but this must be with the right adult supervision as stated above.
We apologise on behalf of the above juniors, to all the responsible junior anglers that fish with us and who unfortunately also have to pay for this behaviour.

THE GATES ARE CLOSED BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8PM - 7AM

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING - TOTAL SURFACE FISHING IS BANNED ON ALL LAKES - AS OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS

ALSO, BEFORE GOING ON TO THE FISHERY, YOU MUST (MUST) DIP YOUR LANDING NETS IN THE TANK BY THE SHOP DOOR - NO EXCUSES WHATSOEVER WILL BE ACCEPTED

We had great pleasure in catching a loud-mouthed angler called Barry Ward. He has fished here approximately ten times since we took over he fishery, until such time last year when we received information from one of our regular anglers that Barry Ward was bragging that he uses barbed hooks behind our back. Unfortunately he did not fish for approximately 10 months and we had to wait patiently for his return, when on Thursday, 10th March 2011 he arrived and we let him set up on the Specimen Lake, allowing him plenty of time to settle in to fishing. We then went over to him to carry out a rig check. As soon as we approached him, he attempted to remove his rigs from the bait boat he was just about to send out and he had put a piece of foam to cover the barbed hook. He was then asked to pull in the other rod, which he said he had only just cast out and I told him to immediately pull the rod in which also had a barbed hook. I then politely told him to f--- off and that I never wanted to see him at Milton Pools Fishery again and told him that we would name and shame him, so be aware of Barry Ward who thinks that he has the right to break the rules.

Another scene for you :- A couple arrived in the car park.  The man walked halfway to the ‘dipping tank’ with his net and then turned around and walked back to his car.  They walked to the shop once more and then decided to go fishing.  We contacted them on the intercom and explained that they had had the opportunity to read the rules about dipping nets, twice (but obviously chose to ignore this) and that we would only allow them to proceed through the electric gates when they finally dipped their net.  After fishing for about an hour on the House Lake, the woman landed a nice 8lbs carp, but then proceeded to drag it across the ground (witnessed by Ray).  Ray went over and asked them what they thought they were doing treating a carp like this and also where was their unhooking mat (which they did not have).  The man enquired if we sold them and that he would purchase one.  By the time they got to the shop, Ray was obviously incensed by what had occurred and did voice very strongly to the man the way in which they had treated the fish and their obvious lack of concern by making no effort to dip their net, as it appeared too much trouble.  The man said Ray should not speak to him the way he did, but honestly, what was he supposed to say “you may have killed this fish, but, oh well never mind, don’t do it again”.  Good fishing practice means it should not have happened in the first place, do they imagine that it is of no consequence to us that their action probably damaged the fish’s scales and by the next day it could well be feeling unwell and ‘turn over’.
As we have said before, treat the fish and the fishery with respect and we will in turn give you respect and do everything we can to make your time with us enjoyable.
For anyone who would have even considered doing any of the above, please do not visit our fishery, as there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for this behaviour, and please leave the fishery to the majority who enjoy and respect their fishing.
