Recent Catches 2023

Two other anglers who fished at the beginning of August were Milton Pools Bailiffs Chris Ellis & Mark Lewin, with one of them catching a good old Catfish & a stunning Common, while the other caught up on his zzz’s 😂. Well done you two, great angling Chris.

*MR GREGORY DOES IT AGAIN!!!*

Yes it’s that time again…he’s back! Mr Gregory returned again this past weekend to do just over 48hours on the Specimen Lake. Fishing his favourite peg, peg 4 he continued to use the same tactics which has done him so well over his last few trips and sure enough, different trip…same results. By the time he packed his gear away on Sunday afternoon, Mr Gregory had had a total of 18 fish that included:

27lbs Mirror,25lbs 8oz Mirror,24lbs Common,22lbs Common,19lbs 8oz Common,17lbs 8oz Common,16lbs Common,50lbs Catfish,

Mr Gregory wasn’t alone this past weekend he was also joined by 4 friends who fished with him on the front of the Specimen Lake pegs 1-5, including Tom & Mickey who also had a cracking weekend with some of their catches shown below. Well done to you all great angling, see you on your next trip.

Milton Pools regular Paul Humphrey just left us on Tuesday morning after doing a quick 24 hour session on peg 4 on the Specimen Lake. Paul had a great session using Five Star Baits Illusion over a bed of chopped worm with three fish falling to the lethal combination, two Carp to 22lbs & a Catfish weighing 34lbs 2oz. The Ginger One has been on a bit of a roll lately…

Milton Pools regular Stevie Mackie came down at the beginning of August for a late weekend session and whilst fishing his favourite peg, the old faithful peg 18 on the Specimen Lake, he had a total of 4 Carp and 1 (no so welcome) Cat weighing 2lbs 😂. The Carp weighed 14lbs, 14lbs, 20lbs & 21lbs respectively and were caught using a combination of Five Star Baits The Nutz, along with Munch Baits Cream Seed & Citrus Nut. Well done Steve keep it going and we will see you again soon.

Milton Pools shop manager Ant got back out on the bank as well this past weekend on peg 5 on the Specimen, a swim which has served him well so far this year and yet again it produced the goods. Trying a new rig system out with a mixture of Five Star Baits custom wafters over a bed of hemp & corn he managed to bag himself a lovely 15lbs 9oz orange Koi along with a new P.B. Cat weighing 33lbs 7oz. Roll on the next session.

A few pictures are starting to come in from this past weekend, first up from Milton Pools’ own bailiff Chris Ellis, who fished peg 2 on the Specimen Lake for 48 hours and had 4 lovely carp. A 16lbs Common, 25lbs 11oz Common, and two stunning Grass Carp weighing in at 24lbs 2oz and 27lbs 11oz. Solid bags doing the trick again with a mixture of boilies and wafters, well done mate great angling.

Have just had some cracking pictures sent in by Luke Priddle who fished pegs 4 & 5 on our Specimen Lake last week. Enduring the scorching weather Luke picked his spots and times to fish and was reward with 7 fish including 3 Catfish weighing 20lbs, 31lbs & 52lbs, and 4 Carp which included a 19lbs, 26lbs & 28lbs along with a 21lbs Grass Carp. Fantastic angling mate we will see you again soon.

Milton Pools regular John Mobey began last week doing a 48hour session, come Sunday morning he was still here catching fish. Beginning on peg 17 on our Specimen Lake on Monday morning John caught some cracking fish before moving round to peg 6 and once again, different peg, same results. By the time he finished packing up on Sunday morning John had had at total of 10 Carp and 5 Kittens with the best of the bunch being:

From Wales to Oxford and back again his van must be on autopilot by now, Milton Pools regular Andy returned again this past weekend to try a different swim on our Specimen Lake. Fishing peg 13 round the back, he had to contend with the extreme heat but knowing the bites would come he concentrated on the cooler periods of the day to really get after the fish and by the end of his 48hour session he had lost 3 but more importantly landed 7 with the 3 Cats weighing 18lbs, 32lbs & 38lbs, and the 4 Carp weighing 14lbs, 17lbs, 20lbs and 28lbs. Different peg, same results, some absolutely cracking fish well done mate and we’ll see you again in a couple of weeks.

Another angler who has had a good start to June is Milton Pools regular Tommy Johnson who has just left us this morning after doing 48hours on peg 1 on the Specimen Lake. In the end he landed 4 Catfish up to 26lbs and 6 Carp with the biggest being a Grass Carp weighing in at 28lbs. Tommy fished using his tried and tested method of Five Star Baits Fish Mix pellets in both solid PVA bags and PVA mesh. It was a good beginning to June for one angler, that being Milton Pools regular Booey Archer, who came in this past weekend for his first session of the year and what a session he had. Fishing off peg 8 on the Specimen Lake for 48 hours he managed a total of 7 fish the smallest being a kitten weighing 3lbs to a new P.B. weighing in at a cracking 36lbs 10oz which of course resulted in the obligatory new P.B. soaking! Well done mate on some cracking fish see you again soon.

Milton Pools Bailiff Mark Lewin did a few sessions in May targeting the Catfish and had some great results, including a low 20lbs, 44lbs then a new British P.B. of 55lbs. Well done mate and no doubt you’ll be after them again this weekend.

Milton Pools regular Andy managed to grab the last two swims available for the final bank holiday in May so drove all the way from Wales for a 72hour session and as usual he wasn’t disappointed. He landed a total of 10 fish whilst fishing off of pegs 8 & 9 on the Motorway bank, which included 4 Catfish ranging from 12lbs to 40lbs, 3 Grass Carp from 18lbs to 24lbs, & 3 lovely Mirrors from 22lbs to 25lbs. As always fantastic angling Andy well done and we will see you again very soon.

Shop Manager Ant managed to get back out on the bank again for the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend, fishing pegs 4 & 5 with Milton Pools Bailiffs Mark Lewin & Chris Ellis, and it’s safe to say he thoroughly enjoyed his session, breaking his P.B. with this 30lbs 4oz lump. Ant used his usual tactics of corn over pellet, with a size 10 hook fishing close to the bank. He is now planning ahead for his next session, well done.

The ginger one Steve Mackie popped down for a couple of sessions in May, a day session at the beginning of May brought a lovely 20lbs Common, then again at the end of May for a quick 24hour session in which he landed a Common weighing in at 14lbs 3oz and a Mirror at 21lbs 7oz. All were caught off of his favoured swim peg 18 on the Specimen Lake using his go to bait Five Star Baits Bananaz. Well done Steve old boy and we’ll see you on Sunday.

Next up is Jay Hall who was in a party of 4 fishing pegs 16, 17, 18 & 1 on the Specimen Lake from the 19th of May till the 21st. Combined they had a total of 14 fish which included 3 new personal bests, with the Catfish going up to 26lbs 8oz and the Carp reaching 26lbs 6oz. Fantastic fishing lads well done and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

May is always a busy time here at Milton Pools Fishery and this year was even more manic with the addition of another bank holiday, however that meant more fish on the bank, so get ready for the May photo dump. First up is Henry Marriott who was joined by his mate on pegs 17 & 18 during mid May and had a total of 10 Carp with the biggest weighing in at 30lbs on the nose (a new P.B.). Well done lads and we look forward to seeing you again.

Another one from Bank Holiday Monday, this time from Milton Pools regular Tom Sheffield who came down to do the day, and after hopping in on peg 2 on the Specimen Lake had this stunning slab of gold in the upper 20s after just over an hour of fishing. Fantastic angling well done Tom.

The pictures are starting to come in from the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend, first up is James Harper who came down to do a day session on the Specimen Lake on Bank Holiday Monday.
Jumping into peg 1 on Specimen Lake, James fished close to the island and was rewarded with this lovely 18lbs 10oz Mirror for his efforts. Well done James and no doubt we’ll see you again in the next couple of weeks.

Josh Noalls came down for a 36hour session on the Specimen Lake last week and whilst fishing round the back on peg 14 he had two Carp weighing 19lbs 2oz and 20lbs 10oz respectively, along with a 35lbs Catfish in the night which unfortunately he didn’t manage to get a photo of. Well done Josh

Another happy angler, Chris came for a day session yesterday on the Specimen Lake and whilst fishing pegs 13 & 14 round the back with his friend he landed this lovely 29lbs Common adding to the nice collection of fish that have come out over the past few weeks. Well done Chris we’re glad you enjoyed your trip and we look forward to seeing you again.

Steve from Texas comes over every year with his family to see his brother-in-law, Milton Pools Bailiff Mark Lewin, and what would a trip to England be without a bit of carp fishing while you’re here…so this past weekend Mark and Steve jumped on pegs 4 & 5 on the Specimen Lake and they had some absolute crackers out. Mark caught a slab on gold with a lovely 16lbs Common, Steve had two fish to remember with a cracking 28lbs 1oz Common and 32lbs 1oz Catfish. Well done Steve and we’ll see you again next year no doubt, and as for Mark we’ll see you again on Friday

Milton Pools regular Ginger Steve came down last weekend for a 48hour session, jumping in on peg 8 on the Specimen Lake as his usual peg 18 was taken, he used a combination of custom Five Star Baits hook bait and hemp to entice this chunky 27lbs 12oz Mirror out. Well done Steve and we’ll see you next month.

Another from Connor Hannifin who was fishing the Specimen Lake on the 24th March and landed this stunning 25lbs Common. Brilliant angling well done.

Chris continues to use a combination of fake corn and maggot over crushed cream seed and flaked maize to great effect, fantastic fishing well done.

MR GREGORY BAGS UP OVER EASTER WEEKEND!*Well…Easter Weekend is always a busy time for us here at Milton Pools Fishery and this year has been no different and after the past few months (mostly cold and wet conditions) the weather actually decided to be kind to everyone and that in turn got the fish feeding at just the right time. One angler who thoroughly enjoyed his Easter was Milton Pools regular Mr Gregory, who fished peg 4 on the Specimen Lake for the entire bank holiday weekend and found just the right spot to drop his baits and by the time he was finished packing up on Monday evening he had landed a total of 21 fish! Frankie Dorian was joined on pegs 2 & 3 on the Specimen Lake leading into Easter Weekend from Thursday morning until Saturday morning and what a 48hour session they had with some monster cats coming out along with some absolutely stunning carp. They finished their session with a 54lbs Catfish, 53lbs 3oz Catfish, 41lbs Catfish, 36lbs 6oz Catfish, 22lbs 14oz Common, 19lbs 2oz Mirror & a 16lbs 7oz Common. Cracking session well done to you both and we will see you again soon.

Milton Pools regular Henry Marriott managed to get on the last couple of swims available on the Specimen Lake for the first weekend of April, and wasn’t it worth it with his rod screaming off after just 5 minutes and what was on the end was none other than his new P.B. weighing in at 27lbs 12oz. Fishing the same area as a few weeks prior he used a combination of yellow hotdog and corn to get a great result. Well done Henry and we’ll see you again soon.

David Tanner came down for his first day session on Sunday, after asking for a bit of advice about the water he decided on peg 13 on our Specimen Lake, with a mixture of Five Star Baits pink plum wafters and pellets as his bait of choice. A few hours into his session he was rewarded with this lovely 25lbs 5oz Common, stunning fish well done and we look forward to seeing you again.

Milton Pools regular Henry Marriott has just left this morning after finishing up a 24 hour session that turned into a 48 hour session after having his best trip to date. Fishing from peg 5 on the Specimen Lake, Henry started off his session with a stunning 23lbs Common on the morning he arrived, he then followed it up with an 18lbs Linear during the night and another Common weighing in at 17lbs the following morning. All were caught using a single wafter fishing close to the bank. Well done some absolutely cracking fish.

Another fish that was caught this past weekend, this time from Tommy Johnson who hopped in on peg 8 on the Specimen Lake for 24 hours and was rewarded in the early hours of Sunday morning with this 22lbs cracker. He used a combination of Five Star Baits Citrus Wafter over Five Star Baits pellets to entice her out in ever changing weather conditions. Well done Tommy and we will see you again soon.

Fishing close in he used a combination of custom Five Star Baits wafters and pellets on a size 10 rig, in the early hours of Saturday morning he was woken up by this lovely Common which shot off like a torpedo and put up a great fight. Mr Meikle recently came down for his first session on our Specimen Lake, and during a 36 hour session with a few of his friends for his 40th birthday managed to bag himself two lovely Commons in some very changing conditions. Brilliant angling and we look forward to seeing you again.

Mr Gregory who has just finished up an extended weekend session with us yesterday had an eventful trip landing six fish with these two being the pick of the bunch weighing in at 20lbs and 25lbs respectively off of pegs 2 & 3 on the Specimen Lake. Well done Mr Gregory and we’ll see you again.

Antony just left us this morning after fitting in a quick 24 hour session on our Specimen Lake with a couple of his mates on pegs 16 & 17. Making the most of the free space, he fished towards the bridge using a snowman rig consisting of a 15mm Essential IB bottom bait topped with a 12mm Cell Pop-up over a bed of Essential IB and sweetcorn. In the early hours of this morning woke up to a screaming run and ended up landing this stunning Mirror which weighed in at 30lbs on the nose. Brilliant angling Antony and congratulations on breaking your P.B.
This past weekend Matthew, joining his friends on pegs 10 & 11 on the Motorway Bank for a quick 24 hour session managed to pick up this cracking 24lbs 9oz Common during some rather cold conditions. Well done and we will see you again.
The big boys have woken up and come out to play. Milton Pools regular Chris Ellis joining Mark on pegs 4 & 5 on the Specimen Lake in February ended a great weekend for them both with this stunning 30lbs 11oz Mirror caught using his trusted mixture of particles, corn and maggots. Cracking fish Chris well done.
Milton Pools Bailiff Mark Lewin finally got some rods in the water after being frozen in during a session in January, and it was certainly worth the wait when he caught this lovely 27lbs Common during a weekend session in February. Cracking fish mate well done.
After waiting over 3 weeks for the lakes to fully defrost, Milton Pools regular the ginger one Steve Mackie is next up with this lovely little Mirror which he caught off his favourite swim Peg 18 on the Specimen Lake using Five Star Baits The Nutz in February. Well done Ginger Steve.
It’s been a slow start to the year with every type of weather imaginable hitting us however the pictures of recent catches are starting to come in…
First up Milton Pools regular Gavin Andrews got his first session in at the beginning of January during some very windy conditions and it was worth it after he was woken up in the early hours of the morning by this stunning 23lbs Common which he caught using artificial corn over a bed of particle. Brilliant angling Gav well done.
